You could say that’s the mantra behind the creation of Stay All Day® Chroma-Flash Liquid Eye Liner, Stila’s new color-shifting master of metallic hues. The brainchild of Michelle Kluz, Stila’s CEO (and a self-professed color lover), the idea for Chroma-Flash, came (fittingly) in a flash. But while the idea came fast, the process to bring this concept to life took time and a huge team effort at Stila. The first challenge? Identifying the best color-morphing technology out there. One obvious choice came back – Chameleon Pearls. What are Chameleon Pearls? It’s a color-shifting technology that can be applied to beauty and fashion and just like the name suggests, Chameleon Pearls are all about changeable, adaptable, and surprising color. According to the product development team at Stila, this patented technology isn’t new – but it’s rarely used because it’s both precious and pricy. It’s also the best. While we think of pearls as being round, these multi-hued pearls take on a different shape as they’re compressed to form thin transparent sheets that are coated with different colors layered together. Ultimately, these Chameleon Pearls are both shape shifters and shade shifters. Here’s some more cool science – when multi-colored pearls are flattened into such a smooth, silky form, they both reflect and refract light, which means colors bounce back light and also shift or “bend” the light that hits those colors. It’s a double effect which means this eye liner absolutely dazzles from every angle. Next step – how to incorporate these magic-making pearls into an eye liner formula and figure out the perfect balance to deliver maximum performance. This took took some experimentation as the Stila team played with all the possibilities. Too little of the Chameleon Pearls resulted in little color payoff and a too much resulted in a flaky finish. However, this discovery phase had its own rewards as Stila’s Global Beauty Director, Charlie Riddle quickly discovered. “We learned to play with the angles. After applying, you’ll see the color flip when you move your head from side to side,” says Riddle. “You can tweak the placement depending on where the color shift is.” Another cool discovery? This eye liner could go beyond lining. “We found that you could also apply Chroma-Flash all over the lid using a flat synthetic brush. It’s really dramatic and absolutely beautiful – just wait for first layer to dry completely.” After months of seeing colors, fine-tuning formulas and landing on the perfect delivery system – an airtight vial (to ensure formula brilliance, performance and prevent dry out) and a tapered felt tip applicator, Stay All Day® Chroma-Flash Liquid Eye Liner is finally out and fans are loving this new flash of drama.
